Privacy policy

In short

We run no ads of our own; YouTube may show ads in trailers it plays. The site runs no analytics. It keeps what you send through the contact form, sets a session cookie only if you sign in, and remembers your light or dark choice in your own browser.

Trailers come from YouTube, a Google service. Trailer thumbnails load from YouTube's image servers (i.ytimg.com) when a page is shown, which lets Google see your IP address. The player itself loads only after you press Play, in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.

Trailers and YouTube API Services

This site uses YouTube API Services to find official trailers and check that they are still available. We store each trailer's YouTube video ID, title and channel, plus the results of those availability checks. We check each trailer with YouTube again about once a week, and a trailer that has not been checked in the last 30 days is not shown until it has been. When a video is no longer on YouTube we delete what we stored about it. We do not receive any information about you from YouTube.

• When a page that lists a trailer is shown, your browser loads its thumbnail image from YouTube's image servers (i.ytimg.com). Like any web request, that lets Google see your IP address and browser details.
• The video player is not loaded until you press Play. It then loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. Once the trailer plays, YouTube may store cookies or similar data on your device, and may show ads in the trailer.
• "Watch on YouTube" links open youtube.com in a new tab, where Google's own policies apply.

Cookies and browser storage

• Theme preference. If you press "Dark mode", your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under pe-theme so the next page opens the same way. It never leaves your device. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it.
• Sign-in session. If you sign in (theatre owners and the booker), Microsoft Azure Static Web Apps, the service that hosts this site, sets a session cookie that keeps you signed in until you sign out or it expires. It is used for nothing else.
• YouTube. Only after you press Play, as described above.

The site sets no other cookies.

Signing in

Theatre owners and the booker sign in with a GitHub account. GitHub then tells the site, through Azure Static Web Apps, your GitHub user name and which roles the booker has given your account. The site uses them only to decide what you may see and to show who is signed in, and does not store them. GitHub's handling of your sign-in is described in the GitHub Privacy Statement.

Hosting

The site runs on Microsoft Azure. Like any web host, Azure receives each request, with your IP address, the address of the page and your browser's details, and may keep them in its service logs, as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. The site's own code records no visits.

The contact form

When you send an inquiry we receive your name, your email address, your theatre and town if you give them, and your message. They are kept so the booker can read and answer your inquiry, and they are used for nothing else: no mailing lists, and they are never sold or shared. Each message is deleted automatically 24 months after it arrives. The booker can delete one sooner, and will if you ask her to.

To stop spam, the site counts the messages sent from each network (an IP address, or for IPv6 its /64 block) over an hour, and the form contains a hidden field that only automated senders fill in. Each count is filed under a code made from the address with a key only the site holds, so the address cannot be worked out from it, and the count is deleted once its hour is over, the next time the site tidies up (when a message is sent or the booker reads her messages).
